When it comes to pattern, I’m easy to please. Make it fun, graphic or colorful, and I’m a happy camper. And Marimekko, for me, is the perfect marriage of all three.
The Finnish company has been around since the ’50s and you may have even run across one of the individually-owned Marimekko showrooms that dot this country. But their most fruitful relationship, by far, has been with Crate and Barrel, who started showcasing their vivid patterns back in ’66 (although Jacki Kennedy really got the buzz going when she appeared on the front of Sports Illustrated in 1960 in a red Marimekko dress). And now? The Marimekko Shop. Available at select Crate and Barrel stores (two in New York, one in Chicago, one in LA, and one in San Fran) and online, Marimekko is more accessible than ever. Here are my favorite finds featuring some of their newer looks.
Marimekko Siirtolapuutarha Tray, $75
Marimekko Ruuturouva Basket, $29
Marimekko Kurpitsa Green 20-in. Pillow, $60
Marimekko Siirtolapuutarha Mug without Handle, $19
Marimekko Räsymatto Teal Sheet Sets, $40 to $160
Kaareva Ottoman, $999
Great stuff. I need some like now. What collections make you feel good inside?
