Have you felt the chill in the air? One person told me she was freezing. Maybe us Florida gardeners have a hard time adjusting to a drop in temperature especially after a long hot summer. Well, some of your plants

Pothos cannot stand a chill

have the same problem. They don’t like a chill either.

Plants like the pothos, aglaonema, dieffenbachia and similar tropicals do not like much of a temperature dip below 50 to 55 degrees. If it gets too cold, they are going to develop yellow leaves and may totally decline. Also when it gets cold, reduce the watering. It is easy to over water these plants and cause root rot problems.

It is best to find a warm and most likely an indoor area for these plants.

Keep dieffenbachia warm and not too wet

Maybe a spot in the kitchen, family room or similar where there is going to be some heat would be best. Also make sure they have adequate light. Do some grooming and chase the bugs out of the pots before they are brought indoors. One trick that often works is to submerge the root balls with pot in a container of water for up to five minutes. This brings most pests out of hiding.

Usually plants coming indoors do not need fertilizer. If there is any sign these plants need a feeding use a slow release product at the label rate. Then water as normal but do not keep the roots too moist.

Some plants are just like you and me they don’t like a chill but they do appreciate good care.
